Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Lend Me A Kitty

I will lend to you for a while, a kitty, God said.
For you to love her while she lives and mourn for her when she's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three,
but will you, 'till I call her back, take care of her for me.

.She'll bring her charms to gladden you and (should her stay be brief),
you'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
but there are lessons taught below I want this kitty to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
and from the folk that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.

Now will you give her all your love, nor think the labor vain,
nor hate me when I come to take my kitty back again.

I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy Will be Done",
for all the joys Ms. Kitty will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll lover her while we may,
and for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay.

But should you call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand

If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve,
In memory of her we loved, to help us while we grieve,

When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another kitty and love her all her life

BIG HEART
by Anita Burney

One day up in heaven,
While God was looking down,
He saw people alone and sad,
And He gave a little frown.

He wanted to think of something,
To make those people smile,
Then the answer came to Him,
After He'd thought awhile.

He'd give them a companion,
One whose love was true,
Faithful they would be,
No matter what the people do.

Four legs they would have,
And they would never fail,
To greet these people every time,
With a happy wagging tail.

He'd give them a big heart,
To hold all the love inside,
That love would last forever,
Even after they had died.

For across that Rainbow Bridge,
Would be a special place,
Where they would wait and watch,
To see their master's face.

He thought of what to call it,
And then the answer came.
If you spell "God" backwards,
You'll have this animal's name.
