About Us

A Short History

Founded by Dr. Charles in 1972 as Olympic Veterinary Hospital, the name changed to University Place Veterinary Hospital after Dr. Luttinen and his wife, Jenn, purchased the practice in 2007. Since the very first day, we have been providing the best possible medical, surgical, and dental care for our patients. We are a full service veterinary hospital that can meet all your pet’s needs, from routine annual examinations and vaccinations to advanced laser surgery and chemotherapy. University Place Veterinary Hospital displays dedication and commitment to our clients through continuing education, technological advances in veterinary medicine and service, and most importantly, providing compassionate care to all pets entrusted to us. We are regularly updating our facility and equipment, and strive every day to create a calm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere for you and your pet. The veterinarians and staff at University Place Veterinary Hospital are pleased to welcome you into our family.

Our Mission

University Place Veterinary Hospital displays dedication and commitment to our clients through continuing education, technological advances in veterinary medicine and service, and most importantly, providing compassionate care to all pets entrusted to us. We are regularly updating our facility and equipment, and strive every day to create a calm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere for you and your pet. The veterinarians and staff are pleased to welcome you into our family.

As you continue to read and explore our website, it is our hope that you will learn more about our dedication to your family, and the quality services in veterinary medicine we provide.

A modern veterinary hospital is more than its facility, equipment, skills, and the collective experience of its staff. We are pet owners ourselves, and understand how important your pet is to your family. We also understand how important it is to you that your pet receives the best veterinary care from professionals within a friendly and welcoming environment where all of your questions will be answered and opinions are respected. Emphasizing our pledge to help you maintain the health and wellbeing of your pet is a deep belief in the use of preventative care. It is the basis of the lifelong health of your pet and ensures that veterinary costs are kept to a minimum. Preventative care includes regular wellness checkups, appropriate vaccinations, dental care, annual laboratory work, and more. However, if your pet requires medical care, the skill and expertise of our doctors is enhanced by advanced diagnostic imaging equipment, in-house medical testing capabilities, a modern surgical suite, and a network of resources across a wide range of veterinary specialties.

AAHA Accredited

University Place Veterinary Hospital is proud to be accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. AAHA accreditation is achieved by only a small percentage of veterinary hospitals throughout the country. This designation is an assurance to you (our clients) that we adhere to, and often exceed, the rigorous standards set forth by the AAHA in the areas of customer service, veterinary medical care, facility design and other criteria.

Community Outreach

We also enjoy being a good neighbor, taking every opportunity to do our part to sustain and strengthen our involvement within the University Place community. Among other activities, this also includes providing free initial physical examinations for pets that have been adopted from the Pierce County Humane Society or any other animal rescue organization. We are happy to be working with the Evergreen Golden Retriever Rescue Group and Pierce County Coalition Humane Group.

The veterinarians and staff at University Place Veterinary Hospital have also worked closely with Sun Dogs and have been the leading sponsor of the exciting Pups in the Park event every August.

Appointment Policies

We have designed our facility to make our patients (and their parents) feel comfortable and at ease. However some pets may be a little uneasy about new people, new surroundings, and other pets. This is one of the reasons that we ask you to please have your pet on a leash or in a pet carrier before entering the waiting room.

Payments Accepted

We require full payment at the time that services are rendered. We do offer a payment plan through Care Credit. You can apply today in the office or online at www.carecredit.com. For your convenience we also accept VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and personal checks.
